Evin began Lindy Hopping in 1997 in Chicago and quickly knew that she was hopelessly addicted.  Dancing every night of the week soon parlayed into teaching, performing and competing.  Evin has now been teaching around the United States and Europe for over 10 years.  Evin's dancing combines the classic movement of Lindy Hop, rock solid technique, grace, musicality, and a healthy dose of humor.  Her fresh, dynamic approach to dancing and teaching keeps her students both engaged and entertained.

In 2001, after teaching in Chicago and touring regionally with Noah Galang for several years, Evin formed the Lindy Hop troupe, Blue Moon Groove.  A leader in the scene in Chicago, Blue Moon Groove focused on creating strong social dancers while using a fun, energetic approach that made both the techniques and the social aspect of dancing accessible.  In 2005, Evin sold Blue Moon Groove to Big City Swing and continued to enjoy teaching while she started a family.

Evin performed with Noah Galang (Atlanta), Chachi Geraldes (Toronto) and Andrew Twiss (Chicago) in the sought-after performance troupes Big City Swing, Forklift Productions and Dancing ToNite.  Together with Andrew, Evin has taken first through fourth at National competitions including the North Atlantic Dance Competitions (NADC), Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown (ULHS) and American Lindy Hop Championships (ALHC.)  Her choreography has been featured on Cupid (ABC) and Wild Chicago (PBS.)

Now in Atlanta, Evin has been the Director of Down South Swing since January 2009.  In that year, the swing community and DSS has seen exponential growth with a whole new crop of Swing dancers springing up monthly!  Down South Swing's focus is creating a lively class environment while giving the student the highest quality instruction and a sense of community.  To that end, we have networked with the Atlanta Jazz Dance Preservation Society, the Atlanta Swing Era Dance Association and regional swing organizations to create reciprocal programs and benefits for the student and enthusiast.

Along with group classes available for adults, Down South Swing has also expanded to offer outreach into the Elementary and Secondary schools with programming that incorporates Swing Dance movement, social skills, leadership, history, kinetics, physics, math, music appreciation and more.  Discreet and distinct courses for different age groups address age-appropriate themes to help foster self-assured, enthusiastic learners.  We are also offering in-service training for Physical Education instructors wishing to incorporate Swing Dance into their curriculum.

Whether taking a private lesson, group class, specialty lesson, or in-service; enjoying a performance or having a social dance, Evin's enthusiasm and expertise is unmatched.  Save her a dance.  She's looking forward to it!
